Discovery X5 Electric Bike
Notes
Watch this step by step video on Discovery X5 Unboxing and Setup.
The handlebar comes turned for better transportation, but this can cause the cables to be too tight and not allow the handlebar to raise. To fix this, open and loosen the clamp that connects the handlebar to the handlebar stem, then try to raise the handlebar again. If it's still too tight, completely open the clamp that holds the handlebar and detach the handlebar. Then straighten the handlebar stem, and reattach the handlebar.
If your handlebar stem feels loose or wobbly there is an easy adjustment you can do. Locate the Bolt under the Handlebar Latch and turn it to the left. This should tighten the stem and make it feel more secure. Be careful not to overtighten or the latch will not close.
Tools needed:
- 18mm open end wrench
- 14mm open end wrench
- 10mm open end wrench
- Tire removal tool
- #5 Allen key
- To remove the wheel from the rear fork, loosen up the 18mm nut on the right side of the wheel (motor side), remove the 14mm magnet nut on the left side of the wheel (brake caliper side), and then loosen up the 18mm nut on the left side of the wheel (brake caliper side).
- There will be a 10mm nut on the rear fork motor side of the bike. Remove that nut, and push the wheel towards the frame of the bike. Pushing the wheel forward will reduce the tension on the chain.
- Remove the chain from the sprocket after the 10mm nut is removed and the wheel is pushed forward. For the X7 bike, push the derailleur forward from the bottom piece of the derailleur and remove the chain from the sprocket.
- Remove the brake caliper from the rear fork with a #5 Allen key as the wheel cannot be removed with the caliper attached.
- Pull the wheel out of the fork and place on a work table or an elevated flat surface for ease of tire and tube removal. Using the tire removal tool, wedge the tool in between the inner edge of the rim and the tire, and pull towards you while spinning the tire.
- When the tube is accessed, remove the valve stem from the rim and pull the tube out.
- Install the new tube valve stem into the hole of the rim and feed the rest of the tub into the tire.
- Using the tire removal tool, feed the bead of the tube back into the rim pulling the tool towards you while spinning the tire.
- Inflate the tube and make sure the bead around the edge of the rim does not pop out. If it does, this will cause the tube to stick out of the tire and rest on the rim which can cause damage to the tube.
- When all of this is done, place the wheel back into the rear forks with and reinstall the brake caliper, the chain, and the 10mm nut. For the X7 bike, push the derailleur forward from the bottom piece of the derailleur and reinstall the chain to sprocket. Make sure the tire is fully seeded into the rim and the wheel is fully seeded into the rear fork.
- Tighten up all bolts and reinstall the 14mm magnet nut.
Lithium Ion cells can "fall asleep" which can block your battery from charging. You can wake the cells up by following these steps:
- Place the battery in your freezer for 24 hours. It's okay if you're a bit over.
- Let the battery thaw 6-8 hours. Please try to stay in this range, the timing on this step is important.
- Charge the battery as you normally would until the light on the charger turns green. Please note that this can take up to 24 hours. Please unplug if the charger is still red after 24 hours.
- You're good to go!
Another reason for your battery to not charge is a faulty charger, but this is much more rare.
